A showcase of art from the saddleworth group of artists
This is my series of work that focuses on water I love the reflections and colour changes. Having to spend hours each week by the side of the swimming pool and Leon Kossoff swimming pool art gave me the idea to create oil pastel drawings of the Oldham Aquatic and Orca swim team training sessions. This new work closely relates to my plein air painting and my continual sketchbook work of observational drawings of people that I create when out and about. Depicting these athletes has been a challenge due to the speed on which they move through the water.
However this allows me to apply colour and mark making energetically and teaches me to work fast, focusing the eye on tone and shape. This way of working lends itself to a more abstract way of working, I enjoy the freshness and sense of immediacy this brings.
