Saddleworth Artists

Saddleworth Group of Artists has played a prominent part in the cultural life of the area since its foundation in 1950. There are currently around forty elected members from a variety of artistic backgrounds working in different media including oil, watercolour, ink, pastel, stitch, etchings and sculpture. Subject matter ranges from landscape to figure and abstraction.

Free exhibitions are staged twice a year in the spacious art gallery overlooking the canal at Saddleworth Museum – one in June and another running from November to January over the Christmas period.

The exhibitions celebrating the group’s 70th anniversary were held on line in 2020 owing to covid restrictions. Although these were popular and successful, we look forward to holding the next show at the museum when it reopens later this year.

Current officers of the group are:-

President: Janis Bowie MAFA
Secretary: Helen Campbell
Treasurer: Pamela Hughes
Archivist: Sheila Dewsbury MAFA
