About the Artist
Colin Welden
I had the good fortune of having an art school education at The Oldham School of Arts and Crafts in the early 1960’s, and it came in good stead during a 50 year career as a designer/artist in the graphics industry and later in retirement.
Today I paint mainly in watercolour scenes that are of interest to me. I also painting wildlife and am a member of The Animal Artist Association and have had a painting in the final of the David Shepherd Wildlife Competition of the Year 2023.
My most recent work consisted of a pictorial journal of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and was exhibited at Gallery 4, Oldham and will be on show at The Market Gallery, Ashton-under-Lyne for four months in 2026.
Another interest is calligraphy and as a member of the Calderdale Calligraphers I try to keep my hand in at all the styles we have available to us.
At present, I am working on landscape paintings of familiar scenes coupled with poetry written in a calligraphic style to support the landscape and add atmosphere.
