About the Artist

Glynis Thorpe

I have always loved painting and used to paint before my two sons, James and Matthew were born, but stopped due to the pressures of work and family life. Now that my children are older, I have been able to revive my love of painting.

Many years ago, I attended John McCombs’ live model art classes at night school which I found very inspiring, but now I prefer to paint landscapes. I paint outdoors when the weather is kind and from my own photographs when it is not. I love the Lake District, Saddleworth and Scotland and feel at my happiest when I am painting wild landscapes which inspire a freer approach rather than a photographic likeness.

My style has become more abstract after attending a year-long diploma art course at the Norfolk School of Painting.

Nothing is as satisfying and exhilarating as allowing yourself the freedom to capture the moment and feel of a place.

I am very honoured to be a member of the Saddleworth Art Group and
previous solo exhibitions:

Stafford – Autumn 2018
Uppermill – December 2017 and June 2023
Littleborough – November 2016
